Sheep and Goats: Diseases & Health Certificates

Module 11 - Overview of sheep and goat industries and review of eight diseases that impact the industry. Veterinarians should be aware of these conditions when inspecting animals prior to interstate or international movement. The National Scrapie Eradication and Flock Certification programs are reviewed highlighting the genetic components and identification requirements. Examples of properly completed health certificates for are provided to help veterinarians avoid errors that can lead to delays or refusal of entry for their client’s animals.

Reed Hall DVM

Dr. Hall joined USDA, APHIS, Veterinary Services as a Veterinary Medical Officer in 2001 and currently serves as the Emergency Coordinator for Utah and Nevada. Dr. Hall earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University in 1983. Prior to working for APHIS, Veterinary Services he worked six years in a mixed animal practice in Ogden, Utah and then twelve years for USDA, FSIS as a Supervisory Veterinary Medical Officer in Nebraska and Utah.
